From the Principal’s Desk

29th January 2020

Dear Parents

We are already in the third week of the first term and the end of January – before we blink an eye the year will be over. Parents enjoy your child’s year and be supportive of your child in all his/her endeavours –academically, sporting or cultural.

Extra Murals have started and we would like to encourage as many children to participate in the different activities here at school. Please check the Extra-Mural Planner that was sent home and encourage your child to participate.  In saying that, please ensure that you make proper transport arrangements for your child to be collected immediately after his/her activity at school.  It is dangerous for children to hang around the school waiting for someone to fetch them.

Our leaders with Mr Olivier and Mrs Visser went to Deale’s Rock on a Leader camp.  From the reports I have had the children really enjoyed all the activities and are well prepared for what 2020 may throw at them.

The Pre-School Parent Meeting and Picnic was a very enjoyable and relaxing time especially for parents.  The children kept themselves busy by playing games on all the jungle gyms.  This meant that tired parents could relax while watching their children play.

At the Parent / Gr 7 Child Meeting with a number of high schools in our city, the Grade 7 pupils and their parents were told what is expected of them to be enrolled at high schools. The boys and girls know that they will have to work extremely hard to be successfully admitted to the high school of their choice.

Our Foundation Phase children had their own Sports Day last Tuesday which was enjoyed by all.  Thank you to the parents who supported and to those who participated in the Mommy / Daddy races.  Your children appreciate the fact that you came out to watch them.

Here are some results from the Intermediate Phase Inter-House Athletics:

The winning house – Leopards (716) followed in order by Tigers (553), Panthers (432) and Cheetahs (348).

Bongi Ndlovu was the Top Girl Field and Track athlete. The Top Boy Field Athlete was Fortune Mahlangu and the Top Boy Track athlete was Andile Nkosi.  Well done to these athletes.

New records were set by Fortune Mahlangu in the B10 year Long Jump.  The record was 3.93m – it now stands at 4.02m.  Aljarreau Capers improved the B10 year 100 m record. The record was 14,63 – it now is 14,47.  Congratulations to these two boys.

We are excited about the upcoming athletic season and look forward to seeing our athletes perform well.

On Friday, 14th February we will host the Emahlaleni 1 Circuit Athletics at RCS and Taalfees. There will be 23 schools participating which means that we have got permission from the Circuit to allow children, who are not athletes, to remain at home.  Please make necessary arrangements for this day.  We thank you for this in advance.
